In today’s economy, everyone is looking to save all the money they
can. So people take another look at coupons to save money on their
groceries. You can buy the Sunday paper and clip the coupons, haul
them with you everytime you go to the store, or you can go to those
websites that let you print out coupons that you want. Both options
are not really convinent.
This is where my idea comes in. Well its really a rough idea or 2. At
first I was thinking about a coupon savings card that most grocery
stores and CVS Pharmacies have. The cards allow you to take advantage
of savings on certain products just by presenting the card.

So I thought why isn’t there a Manufacturer Savings Card which would be accepted by multiple stores? The Manufacturer Savings Card or MSC, could be loaded by the customer with “ecoupons” of their favorite or most used products via a web interface. For example, I drink a lot of Mountain Dew, I could load the card up with Mountain Dew coupons.

The company that produces the MSC’s could charge a slight fee, either a small monthly fee or a yearly charge, to become profitable.

As I was thinking about how to write this idea up another thought crossed by mind, why not use mobile phones as the MSC. We could use the cell phone’s bluetooth to send the coupon wirelessly. Just a thought.

Mobile Blog?

I recently purchased a T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 as my new cell phone. The sidekick(SK) works quite well to use twitter, check my gmail and use Google Reader.

One drawback to the SK is that there is no flash support, so no Youtube videos, last.fm, or any other site with flash.

With the full keyboard and Camera on the SK, I wanted to do a 100 percent mobile blog via my SK. So with the lack of flash and other limitations of the SK, the regular version of WordPress.com was unusable.

I used Google to search for a hosted blogging platform that doesn’t use flash, or was a true mobile blogging (moblog) platform. After 2 or 3 hours of searching, I remembered about m.wordpress.com and I am using it now.

So we will see how this works out. The only problem I can see with this is that WordPress.com strips out html code. So this post will also double as a test post.

The thing that gets me is with all the smart phones out there and the move towards a more mobile web, there are very few platforms for a 100% mobile blog. Maybe Matt and the WordPress crew can make some additions to the mobile side of WP.com.

If any of you out there have any other suggestions post them here.

Testing the Zoundry Raven Blog editor

Well here we are testing a blog editor that claims to be portable. We will see…I’m just making sure I can post here…I will also try to play with some of the other options…

New going on in my life.

Well it’s been a while since I last posted here so I think I will try and bring this site back to life.

To start off I have to applaud Google’s additions to it’s Book Search. I really love the add it to my Library feature. That way you can keep track of all the books you have read or own. One drawback with using Google Book Search’s “my Library” feature is the way they allow you to import multiple books by adding the books ISBNs. When you import multiple books using the ISBN and Google has a problem with that ISBN or can’t find it, it doesn’t tell you which book failed to be added to your library, it just tells you “X number” of books imported.

A few things that have impressed me with Google Book Search’s “my Library” is the ability to tag each book(which is great for main characters), the “about this book” feature gives you plenty of information about the book such as:

Popular Passages

Summary of Book

Publishing Info

User generated Reviews of the book

Uses Google’s Maps to map out all place within the book.

Just to name a few things, also Google has a full/partial/snippet view of books, depending on its permission’s.

With Google’s foray into the books I thought I would bring up a site I used to use all the time its called LibraryThing. Here is their own explantion of what LibraryThing is:

LibraryThing is an online service to help people catalog their books easily. You can access your catalog from anywhere—even on your mobile phone. Because everyone catalogs together, LibraryThing also connects people with the same books, comes up with suggestions for what to read next, and so forth.

I’m not ready to go into LT too deeply but to say it is extremely easy to use, and a good site. However if LibraryThing and Google Book Search can combine their sites, I think you would have an outstanding Book site. Just my opinion there folks.

I have seen the comments left by a few of you, and to let you all know I have put my search for a new phone/ blackberry on hold for a while. Work has been a bear, and I haven’t had time to research everything yet, heck I haven’t had time to post here in a while. So as soon as I renew my search I will update that series of articles.
